Who We Are
Our Mission:
AHRC Nassau empowers people to live fulfilling lives.
Together with Family – Friends – Community
AHRC Nassau is a not-for-profit organization that is a chapter of The Arc New York.
Established at a time when most people with developmental disabilities were relegated to institutions or hidden away at home, AHRC Nassau has been dedicated to improving the lives of people with developmental disabilities and helping them live self-directed lives for more than 65 years.
As a parent-founded organization whose foundation was built on the hopes they had for their children, AHRC supports more that 2,200 individuals with intellectual and other developmental disabilities.
In 2011, AHRC Nassau concluded a four year restructuring effort and developed numerous non-profit affiliate organizations, independent of The Arc New York, to better meet the needs of the people we support. When referring to AHRC Nassau, please note that we do not recognize ourselves as an acronym. Our name was changed to reflect a more dignified and appropriate way to refer to our services and the people supported though our programs. If trying to provide context when referencing us, simply note that we are an agency that provides services and supports to people with developmental disabilities.
